Mockingbird High Chair vs Bugaboo Giraffe
Two modern wooden high chairs built to grow with your child — one converts to a big-kid chair in seconds and cleans up easiest, the other adjusts its seat depth in one second and takes babies from birth. But one of them is subject to an active CPSC recall. Here's the honest breakdown.
Last reviewed: 2026-08-24. Specifications verified against Mockingbird's official product page and help center, Bugaboo's official US product page corroborated by authorized-retailer listings, and the CPSC recall database (sources below).
The short answer
The Mockingbird High Chair is the practical pick: a beech wood 2-in-1 with a wipeable, crevice-free curved seat, a magnetic buckle harness, machine-washable silicone straps, and a dishwasher-safe tray liner — then a tab-release conversion to a 150 lb child chair around age 3. It costs $249, sells direct-only, and was out of stock at our check. The Bugaboo Giraffe is the more versatile grower on paper: it takes babies from birth in the Newborn Set, adjusts seat depth in one second without tools, and carries up to 220 lb as a chair — but it carries a June 2025 CPSC recall for a fall hazard, and we do not recommend buying it until you've confirmed the unit's remedy status with Bugaboo.

Mockingbird figures per its official product page and help-center articles (weight-limits article updated 2024-12-12). Giraffe figures per Bugaboo's official US product page as corroborated by authorized-retailer listings (Albee Baby, Strolleria), plus the CPSC recall notice.
Where the Giraffe wins: range and adjustability
On paper the Giraffe covers more of childhood. Its Newborn Set takes babies from birth (up to 20 lb), the Baby Set carries the feeding years to 36 months (max 33 lb), and the bare chair then serves to 220 lb — and unlike most wooden converters, the seat depth adjusts in about one second without tools, so the chair keeps pace with a growing child day to day, not just twice a year. It weighs just 11 lb, and it's stocked by Amazon and major retailers. All of that is why it hurts to say the rest: this exact model was recalled.
Where the Mockingbird wins: daily cleanup and trust
Mockingbird engineered the messy part out of mealtime. The curved seat has no fabric crevices to trap crumbs, the silicone straps go in the washing machine, the tray liner pops into the top rack of the dishwasher, and the magnetic buckle makes one-handed harness fastening realistic. Around age 3, a tab-release turns it into a sturdy child chair rated to 150 lb that kids can climb in and out of independently. It also carries a clean recall record for this product category — the brand's CPSC filings involve strollers, not this chair. Trade-offs: it starts at ~6 months (no newborn configuration), the maker publishes no dimensions or warranty terms on the pages we reviewed, it's sold direct-only, and it was out of stock at our August 2026 check.
Still deciding? Answer three questions.
Our verdict
Buy the Mockingbird High Chair if your child sits unassisted and you want the lowest-friction chair here: crevice-free wipeable seat, machine-washable straps, magnetic buckle, dishwasher-safe tray liner, and a genuine 150 lb child-chair conversion waiting at age 3 — from a brand with no high-chair recalls on file. Buy direct, and confirm stock first, because it was out of stock at our check.
Hold off on the Bugaboo Giraffe. Its from-birth Newborn Set, one-second seat-depth adjustment, and 220 lb ceiling make it the stronger grower on spec — but the June 12, 2025 CPSC recall (fall hazard, risk of serious injury or death; item codes 200008001–200008005) means any purchase decision starts with verifying remedy status for the specific unit with Bugaboo. We do not recommend buying one until that's confirmed.
Tie-breaker: baby already at the table and mess-averse household → Mockingbird. Genuine newborn need → ask Bugaboo about the Giraffe recall remedy first, or see our High Chairs hub for alternatives that start at birth.
