Choosing a breast pump, the evidence-first version
- Check recall history before buying second-hand. Every product on this site carries a dated CPSC database check; for pumps, also confirm any used unit has all its original parts and no cracked valves — suction performance depends on sealed hardware.
- FDA status is factual context. Where a manufacturer cites FDA registration or clearance, we state it as documented regulatory status, never as a performance endorsement.
- Marketing numbers get scrutiny. Claims like 'quietest' or 'hospital-grade' are quoted only inside source citations; where a maker publishes no measured figure (noise in decibels, for example), the record says so rather than repeating the adjective.
- Cleaning and wear affect function. Follow the maker's washing instructions for valves and membranes — worn seals are the most common cause of suction loss reported in user manuals' troubleshooting sections.
